The deadline to sign up for a trip is approximately 5-6 months before departure. This lead time allows for United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) team training, fundraising and thorough preparation before travel. Your completed application must be received by HCW by the deadlines listed above.
All team members must be 18 years or older at time of travel and must have a valid passport. Each team member must raise a minimum of $3000* in order for HCW to send you on a team. All donations to HCW are tax deductible. Fundraising deadlines will be determined at the first team training session. If deadlines are not met, you may transfer your application to another trip. Please visit Helping Children Worldwide or contact us at 703-793-9521 for more information about UMVIM teams.
*Missioners not originating from the Washington, D.C. area may have a higher fundraising requirement. Please contact us for more information.
Cuba Mission Trips
Beginning in 2007, Floris UMC has sent mission teams to Cuba annually (typically in May and June) through United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM). These teams focus primarily on rebuilding churches, while missioners also offer financial and spiritual support to the Methodist Church of Cuba. Construction teams work throughout the country, wherever the need is greatest.
If you are interested or want more information about our work in Cuba, contact Aldo Gonzalez.
Haiti Mission Trips
Floris UMC began sending short-term mission volunteers to participate in Haiti rebuilding efforts after the devastating earthquake of 2010. Over a three-year recovery period, six different Floris United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) teams traveled to various parts of Haiti to assist in reconstruction projects identified by the Methodist Church of Haiti (EMH). As rebuilding and disaster relief ended, Floris UMC aligned with the Haiti Partnership to build relationships and work collaboratively with Haitian partners for sustained community development.
Upcoming missions to Haiti will be posted soon.
National Relief Trips
At least twice a year Floris UMC sends a team somewhere in the United States to help with natural disaster destruction. In partnership with other United Methodist Churches, Floris UMC helps families and communities recover. All levels of experience are welcome.
Check back for future information on trips in 2019 and 2020.
