Growing Hope in Democracy Tree Planting

October 20 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Democracy in the United States of America is bigger than elections.

It is a shared commitment to self-government, a respect for minority views, a trust in the institutions of local, state and national government, and a belief in the transcendent creed of the United States, that all people are created equal. However, elections stress these principles, because they inherently separate us into winners and losers. To overcome this tension, the United States depends upon rituals that reaffirm our shared commitments to the endeavor of democracy, to each other, and future generations.

Growing Hope and Democracy: A Reston/Herndon Community Tree Planting brings together our entire community by planting a ceremonial tree to demonstrate our commitment to democracy, each other, and future generations.

Event activities include:
  • Tree planting ceremony
  •  Music & Readings – Notes of Hope
Together will strengthen the ongoing fabric of our democracy, strengthen our commitment to one another, and bring hope to our local community.
