Theology on Tap

Engage with your local community to discuss theological topics. Bring a friend – all are welcome!

Our speaker: Lauren Soljanyk works as the Access Ministries Coordinator for Floris/Restoration UMC.  She holds an M.Ed and was a teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools before joining the staff at Floris.  She also worked with a post-secondary program, Mason LIFE, at George Mason University for many years.  Currently, Lauren is working on an MA in Disability and Ministry through Western Theological Seminary.  She has provided book studies to staff and other clergy, as well as led workshops and staff trainings on inclusion.  Lauren believes that welcoming is not enough—people need to know they are WANTED and churches need to find ways to include all people.

Lauren will be talking about what it means to do ministry WITH people with disabilities, what inclusion really is, and where the Bible calls us to include others.  Come prepared to think about your own experiences and observations, and to get creative on ways to increase inclusion and belonging in churches.
