Thousands of Americans have responded to the horrific murder of George Floyd by protesting and demanding an end to “the killing of innocent Black people” at the hands police officers and are demanding change. Many have also asked “What can I do?” to help end racial injustice in the United States.
Join Restoration for a virtual discussion designed to explore how we can start participating in “uncomfortable conversations” about racism. Led by Dr. Lisa Sechrest-Ehrhardt – a dynamic professional social worker whose career has focused on cultural diversity, with an emphasis on race and ethnicity – this discussion aims to help participants begin a journey of self-awareness and to understand where they are situated in a society in with a racial hierarchy. Participants will be made aware of the visible and “not so visible” racial factors present in everyday life that afford some with advantages while at the same time, do not afford others those same advantages. The discussion will focus on what each of us “brings” to social interactions with others in diverse environments.
