What is Leadership Mission International (LMI)?
Leadership Mission International is a faith-based, U.S. nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and public charity that invites women from rural areas throughout Honduras to engage in their own personal development journey at The Leadership Center (TLC). During their two years on campus, young women receive a nationally accredited education and the mentorship and support to become change agents leading entrepreneurial ventures and sustainable development in their communities. LMI practices and promotes core leadership values throughout all levels of the organization. These values reflect the leadership attributes of love, kindness, respect, courage, patience, forgiveness, and many others. We gratefully include all teachers, staff, and volunteers who want to join us on our mission of partnering with and empowering Honduran women.
Why a Partnership with LMI in Honduras?
Several members from Restoration & Floris UMC had already been supporting students @ LMI & had been going on trips to the campus by 2022 when Restoration’s own Pastor Isaiah (Park) joined them. When she came back, she told Pastor Daniel about her incredible week. So in January of 2023, Pastor Daniel joined the Restoration team headed for LMI’s campus for a week. The life stories from the students & staff, the experiences on campus and just being a part of the campus for a week profoundly impacted Daniel and all the first timers on the team. Returning home, Daniel knew we should be a part of the LMI story. That’s how the Restoration- LMI partnership story began. We are excited to see where God is leading & calling this partnership.
We will continue to add more details to the stories that have happened & the opportunities for involvement that continue to come up.

Why should I go?
Traveling with a team is an excellent opportunity to see how God’s Kingdom is advancing in a developing country such as Honduras and to use your gifts to be a part of it. Our hope is that team members come with a desire to learn more about the goals and accomplishments of the Honduran women who attend our program. Also, while visiting team members can assist where they are able, and when they return to the U.S. become advocates for continued success and growth of Leadership Mission International. Students at TLC are excited and energized when visitors spend time with them, and the activities experienced provide lifetime impacts.
What are the daily activities I will be participating in as a team member?
Team members who visit TLC will participate in the students’ daily activities. This includes morning chores (working on the farm) and devotionals, attending classes with opportunities to teach in the classroom or provide educational seminars or workshops, building relationships by helping with homework (speaking and reading English) and eating all 3 meals with students and staff in the communal dining area. There are also spiritual formation activities (bible study, Sunday service, discipleship groups) and exercise opportunities (soccer, yoga, Zumba).
What is Honduras like and how does LMI want to develop change?
In Honduras, women from low-income families have few opportunities, but they have lots of potential. Additionally, a male-dominated society and domestic abuse are significant issues throughout Honduras. This can prevent women from reaching their full potential as well as using their skills and abilities to positively influence society. To best carry out our mission of ethical leadership development, we also educate women on their rights and empower them by providing opportunities they would not otherwise have.
What is the History of LMI?
The campus of The Leadership Center was launched in 2011 and the nonprofit organization of Leadership Mission International was founded in 2013 which provides resources and manages The Leadership Center. In the past 12 years there have been 152 graduates who hold roles in business, NGOs, and local government across Honduras. Some graduates have gone to higher learning at universities. Most graduates also have worked in their communities to lead projects that advance the quality of life.
Where do I stay while I am there? Is it safe?
Mission team members stay in a 5-bedroom team house on the campus of The Leadership Center that is remotely located within a large national forest in the mountains. Campus has many self-sustaining practices in place in its rural location. The campus is only one hour from Comayagua airport with only two small dirt roads leading in and out of the entire vast region. The forest is one of the largest sources of income to the government, so it is carefully guarded and a very safe environment.
Cost is a donation of $700 a person that includes 3 nutritious meals a day, transportation to and from the airport, and a bed in the team house. Airfare not included. In some cases, scholarships may be available.
