That Our Joy May Be Complete

Jul 12, 2026    Michael Graham

Has your soul ever cried out to know God more tangibly?

Do you find yourself yearning to know Jesus the way his disciples did?

In 1 John, one of those very disciples reminds us of Jesus’s realness, of how fellowship with this real, risen Jesus is the path to joy that is made complete. In this joy, we’re able to be who we were always made to be—treasured children of God, freely loving others as we were taught to do by a Father who first loved us.

But sometimes, 2,000 years after Jesus physically walked the earth, the joy of that reality can feel hard to grasp. Amid the chaotic day-to-day of modern life, we might find ourselves wondering if our Heavenly Father is just playing hide and seek.

Thankfully, the good news from Jesus is that it’s not “hide and seek,” but “seek and you will find.” God is always there, always ready to scoop us into his arms and lead us into a deeper, more real knowledge of him.

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on how, at their best, our own parent-child relationships offer a glimpse of what God yearns to build with each of us. In real, practical terms, we’ll talk about what running into his arms can tangibly look like—and how seeking him in three unique ways can be the pathway to the kind of rooted, lasting relationship where our joy will truly be made complete.
