Where Compassion Meets Policy: How Christians Can Engage America’s Healthcare System

Healthcare touches every one of us — yet the system we rely on is often confusing, expensive, and uneven in the way it serves our communities. As Christians, we’re called to care for the vulnerable, seek justice, and pursue the common good. But what does faithful engagement look like when the issues involve complex insurance markets, opaque hospital pricing, federal regulations, and socio-demographic barriers many Americans face?

This month at Taproom Theology, we explored how compassion and policy met — and how followers of Jesus could think wisely, act justly, and advocate for a healthcare system that reflects dignity and fairness.

Guest Speaker: Shawn Gremminger

Shawn Gremminger is the President & CEO of the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions (NAHCP), a national organization representing employers and public purchasers working to improve healthcare quality, affordability, and equity. 

Shawn is also a member of Christ-Crossman UMC in Falls Church.

With more than two decades of experience in federal health policy, Shawn has worked across the healthcare landscape, including hospital payment reform, insurance markets, drug pricing, Medicare policy, and consumer protection.

He’s known for making complex policy issues understandable and for helping everyday people see how decisions in Washington shape the care we receive at home. Shawn brings a thoughtful, justice oriented perspective rooted in his Christian faith and his commitment to improving the system for workers, families, and communities.
